my first bridal bouquet

Posted by Jules on July 4, 2008

It’s done~! The bridal bouquet I had to make for Cheryl’s reception day is done hehe. It took a couple of weeks of trials and errors, but I think I’ve finally got it :P Recap!

First, I tried to make flowers from lace, mesh, beads, whatnots… somewhat disastrous. Well, maybe not disastrous. But it’s seriously pathetic.

lace Right? Like, what the hell lol.

So I spent a while thinking, how can I pull this off? Making flowers just doesn’t seem to be working, ’cause let’s face it. I’m no florist nor am I some floral handicraft genius. So let’s see what can make this project easier. I dropped by the malay wedding supplies shop that i frequent every now and then for beads, ribbons and stuff. Well, whaddya know. There are several types of flowers that would go well for a western style bouquet! I bought a few things and managed to make this.

bouquet v1 How’s that?

Aha, we’re getting somewhere. Much easier too. It took me longer to choose the stuff to buy than it took me to tie them together lol. But still, this is just Version1. As you can see, it’s too freakin’ small! It’s not even a “small bouquet”, it’s a lame little “itty bitty bouquet” haha. So, ok, heck. I had to go back to the shop to add more stuff to it.

Got 3 pieces of bigger ‘roses’ that would go well with what I already have here. Plus more ribbon blooms and beady strings. The roses were actually brooches with feathers, so I had quite the trouble removing them without destroying the rose. Hmm, Cheryl mentioned before about her idea of a butterfly bouquet would be nice. I was thinking… Damn, where to get nice small butterflies la. Lucky for her, the shop’s got a few types of butterflies. Look at what I worked out:

bouquet v2 What do you think???

Looks alright, right? Just don’t look what’s under the flowers haha. Clever me only thought of an idea AFTER the whole thing is done. I should’ve bought a small polysterene ball to poke the flowers in, instead of torturing my fingers by twisting the metal wires… Oh well. It’s done and that’s that lol. It’s all glued and stuck tight together. Irreversible! XD

feeling crafty

Was surfing the net for some ideas on Cheryl’s hand bouquet for her reception coming up next month, and I stumbled upon the art of origami. I didn’t know you can make a rose out of a square piece of paper! So i tried to make one. First attempt took me almost 2 hours and nowhere near looking like a rose. I gave up and went to sleep. Later I tried again and I don’t understand that particular tutorial, so i threw that away too and looked for another instruction guide. This I spent over an hour making. Check it out.

origami roseDon’t be fooled. It is actually incomplete!

I don’t understand the final couple of steps even after half an hour. So since it already looks like a rose anyway, I just let it be ‘unlocked’ lol. But I’m NOT gonna make an origami hand bouquet for Cheryl, it took waaaaaay too long just to make ONE! She doesn’t want fresh flowers, so does anybody has any idea? Lace, mesh, ribbons?

On another note… I’m having like a personal mini project. I wanna make mini plushies for each of my colleagues, as a farewell token thingie. Like its-been-good-working-with-you kinda thing, you know. I haven’t exactly started making anything for anyone yet, but I was experimenting and try to get an animal head with a small snout. And lookee what I’ve got:

breeI call her Bree, lol.

Strange piece of work but I’m proud of it, nonetheless. Yes I’m aware that she’s just a head! But may I say that she’s a CUTE head haha. Maybe you can’t see it in the picture, but I consider my snout experiment a success!
